Laura Woods didn’t hold back when addressing a West Ham fan who believes Declan Rice can do better than Arsenal.
Hammers chairman David Sullivan recently told talkSPORT the midfielder has played his final game for the club.
Despite interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, Arsenal are frontrunners to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
But speaking on The Sports Breakfast, a West Ham fan called Phil wasn’t happy with as he spoke to Gunners fan Woods and ex-midfielder Ray Parlour about the Hammers’ star man.
Speaking on Tuesday, Phil said: “I think I’m listening to talkARSENAL now, why don’t you have some West Ham people on?
“You can record this and play it back in five years’ time, there’s no chance that Arsenal will get anywhere close to winning the league, the Champions League; they probably won’t even win an FA Cup or a League Cup.”
Woods immediately cut him down, saying: “Didn’t they get close to winning the league this year? Didn’t they get closer than anybody apart from the team who won the league? Didn’t they get a lot closer than you did? You were closer to relegation, weren’t you Phil?”
Phil responded: “They had their one chance this year and they blew it. Next year, Newcastle will be stronger, Chelsea will be stronger, Man United will be stronger and Arsenal won’t even finish in the top four next year.
“I’m a West Ham fan who is over the moon and still excited about a fantastic few days in Prague, but to be honest with you, I understand that Declan Rice wants regular Champions League football but he’s not going to get that at Arsenal. Don’t be deluded.”
Asked by Woods if he’s going to get it at West Ham, Phil said: “Of course, he’s not going to get it at West Ham, but at least he’s going to pick up a cup at West Ham.
“Man City are a fantastic side. I’m not sure they’re going to come in for him but I’d love him to go there. If not, personally I’d like him to go to a foreign club like Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.
“If he’s going to go anywhere in England, I’d like it to be Man City. They’ve won more cups this season than Arsenal have in the last 10 years.”
But Woods was having none of it, replying: “But why does that matter? Arsenal have a lot more history. I thought that supporting a club like West Ham you’d appreciate history.”
Phil responded: “We’ve got a lot more history than Arsenal, let’s be honest. At least we won the World Cup [with England in 1966].”
To which Woods replied: “That’s why I said it! You could also say that Arsenal won the World Cup with France [in 1998].”
Phil then said: “Sorry, is it talkSPORT I’m speaking to, or is it talkARSENAL?”
Then Woods delivered the final nail in the coffin. She replied: “Phil, you did that joke already!”
Woods then added: “I understand where Phil’s coming from in that if he goes to Man City he wins more, but I don’t think that’s an actual practical move for him.”
