Steven Gerrard is reportedly considering an offer to return to club management with Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq.
The former Liverpool skipper has been out of work since being sacked by Aston Villa in October following a poor run of results.
Gerrard has been linked with a number of managerial posts including Leeds and Leicester, but it appears that a move to Saudi Arabia could be on the cards.
A source close to the potential deal told Reuters: “Al Ettifaq made an offer to Gerrard.
“He welcomed the idea, but asked for time to study the offer.”
Al Ettifaq finished the season in seventh place – a whopping 35 points adrift behind champions Al Ittihad.
Gerrard would be tasked with closing the gap on the leaders who recently confirmed the signing of Karim Benzema on a free transfer.
The 43-year-old would also need to overcome the challenge of Al Nassr, fronted by Cristiano Ronaldo.
Al Nassr came up short last season, finishing runners up to Al Ittihad in a closely-disputed title race.
The Saudi League has bolstered its profile since the arrival of Ronaldo in January.
Al Hilal were hopeful of signing Lionel Messi before he committed his future to Inter Miami Last week.
And Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has now emerged as the club’s alternative to Messi, with the club willing to buy him for £38million.
N’Golo Kante is another player that could be heading for Saudi Arabia to link up with French compatriot Benzema, as the Saudi League continues to gain exposure.
