Mikel Arteta has promised to attack the transfer market as Arsenal prepare to splash out nearly £200million on signings.
The Gunners have been locked in negotiations at the start of the window to get their transfer business done early.
Kai Havertz is the closest to joining in a £65m move from Chelsea, while two bids for been turned down for Declan Rice.
Arsenal would likely need to bid £100m to get West Ham to sell.
Also on their list of top targets is Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, with a £30m bid already knocked back.
Arteta has spoken about Arsenal’s transfer plans in an interview with the Spanish press.
Arteta told Marca: “We already made a refresh of the squad. We’re now together with owners to build a winning team that could be sustainable for long term.
“We need important players and we’ll attack the market to sign those who we need.”
Asked about the Rice transfer, he said: “I can’t talk about players who are not in the club. I prefer not to say anything.”
The Spaniard gave a little more away when it came to the Havertz pursuit, though.
He said: “Talent comes at a price, and at Arsenal we are always interested in youngsters with experience.
“I repeat, I’m not talking about players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai he has already shown a lot, including [winning] a Champions League. He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old.”
