Chelsea and Manchester United are both competing for a European spot, with Erik ten Hag’s men currently above their rivals.

United sit in seventh, while Chelsea are in eighth, meaning that the former are the team who are on course to qualify for the Europa Conference League.

However, the Blues can finish today ahead of their rivals with a win against West Ham United.

Both clubs would have been aiming for the Champions League going into the season, but this is the situation they now find themselves in.

If Chelsea do go on to win today, United can reclaim seventh place with a draw tomorrow. They travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace.

ESPN pundit makes Chelsea-Manchester United prediction

United have been above Chelsea for the whole season.

However, the Blues now have the chance to overtake their rivals in the table, and former Premier League forward Jan Aage Fjortoft has predicted where they will finish come the end of the month.

On ESPN FC, he said: “They will pass Manchester United. That’s my statement of the night. They will pass Manchester United; Chelsea will be ahead of Manchester United.”

Given where Chelsea were at one point, it would be a bit of an achievement.

Will Chelsea finish above Manchester United this season?

United have some hard fixtures left, still needing to play Arsenal and Newcastle United at home before travelling to Brighton & Hove Albion.

None of those games are going to be easy, while Palace could also be a tricky match given how they have been playing under Oliver Glasner.

As for Chelsea, while Mauricio Pochettino‘s men have to take on Brighton as well, games against Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth are much easier fixtures than what awaits United.

Whether the Blues can pick up enough points to finish in the top six is another story. But you would have to say there is a very good chance of them beating United to seventh based on both side’s remaining fixtures.
