Chelsea are interested in signing Luca Netz from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

That is according to well respected journalist Simon Phillips.

Luca Netz, who’s aged just 20, is having a great individual season in the German top division with Gladbach.

The attack-minded defender, who’s playing a mixture of both left-back and left wing-back this campaign, looks like a very exciting young talent.

He’s got five assists in 24 games across all competitions so far this season at club level.

Now, the Germany Under-21 international has caught the attention of Chelsea.

Simon Phillips shared via his Substack this afternoon that Chelsea are looking into signing a new left-back this summer when the window opens.

Apparently, Gladbach youngster Netz is on the Blues radar.

Phillips wrote: “I have a new left back name being looked at. This position will be our joint second priority for the summer alongside a new centre back.

“I can reveal that Germany U21 international Luca Netz is being looked at as a new left back target for the summer…”

So, Netz become another left-back to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.

We agree that the Blues need reinforcements in the left full-back position, but our preference would be a more experienced recruit that’s more guaranteed to hit the ground running from day one. Ideally, a proven left-back with a track record of doing well in the Premier League.

We heard the news from Chelsea today that Ben Chilwell has yet again picked up an injury blow. It’s unclear yet on the severity of the left-back’s problem, but he’s seeing a specialist and his poor record will make supporters fear the worse.

Chelsea have somehow got to get over this injury curse that’s been negatively impacting the team for a couple of years now. lt would be great for everyone to know what a settled Pochettino team looks like before a match.
