Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has given huge praise to his opposite number at Chelsea ahead of the upcoming fixture between the Premier League clubs.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is under some real scrutiny for the job he’s doing at Stamford Bridge, but he should take some comfort from kind words by people actively working in football.

The Blues recently lost a League Cup final to Liverpool in horrible fashion, plus they’re 11th in the league table going into the weekend’s fixtures.

Howe and Pochettino will lock horns in a few days time in the latest installment of this managerial battle.

In fairness, Newcastle’s manager has been very complimentary of his upcoming opponents today, as well as Pochettino as an individual.

Howe said via Newcastle’s X account: “Chelsea have definitely improved throughout the season, they have got better and better, they have top quality players and an outstanding manager. We know it will be a very difficult game against a team that is dangerous, but as always, the focus is on us.”

The Guardian claimed a few days ago that Chelsea plan to wait until the end of the season before reviewing Pochettino’s position at the club. So, can he convince everyone during the remaining months of the season that the squad is on the right track with him?

Speaking on The Peter Crouch podcast this week, Steve Sidwell claimed that Pochettino has been doomed from the start since arriving as head coach last summer.

We’re feeling very uncertain about Pochettino’s role right now at Chelsea given results, but a few wins may change it all.
