Reports have claimed that one Chelsea player who has been on the sidelines recently could be about to make his return.

According to the Evening Standard, the Blues could be about to welcome back someone they have missed in the last few weeks.

The defence is a position in particular where Chelsea have been badly affected by injuries this season.

Reece James has hardly played a part in his first season as captain, while Wesley Fofana will likely not make an appearance at all this season.

Chelsea suffering injury crisis

The left-back role has not avoided injuries either, with both Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell enduring lengthy spells on the sideline.

It is the latter who has not been available for a few games now, leaving the Blues without both their captain and vice-captain.

While the Spaniard has had a decent few games spell for Chelsea, it is fair to say that many would feel more confident with £50m signing Chilwell available for selection.

Chilwell set to be back for next game

It does not seem as if they will have too long to wait, with it now being reported that the England international is likely to be fit for their next game in a week against Everton.

This will leave Mauricio Pochettino a choice to make when it comes to who will play in the position, with every game now a must-win for the Blues.

This is if they are still hoping to finish in a position that will see them qualify for European football for next season, a feat which is likely to be crucial in Pochettino keeping his job at the club.

If any pressure had been lifted on the Argentine following the thrilling win against Manchester United, it was straight back on his shoulders following the draw against Sheffield United.
