Barcelona have now entered the running to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana, who’s been linked as a potential Chelsea target.
Amadou Onana, 22, is a towering defensive midfielder starring in the Everton midfield.
His Toffees side may be in the thick of a Premier League relegation battle this season, but he’s one of several players at Goodison Park with huge individual ability and a massive future.
There’s fresh reports from Spain this week that mentions some big interest in the Belgium international.
Sport has claimed that Barcelona are interested in signing Everton’s Onana this summer.
It is explained that Deco, Barcelona’s sporting director, has already made contact about the midfield star.
The report explains that the Spaniards are unlikely to spend more than €40 million (£34m) on Onana, whom they want as a Yaya Toure-esque figure in their midfield.
MORE CHELSEA STORIES
As it stands, Everton value their highly-rated talent at around €60million (£51m).
Sport adds that there’s already been interested calls in Onana from both Chelsea and Arsenal, too.
Chelsea target Amadou Onana
Described as “outstanding” by Darren Bent on X, Onana does look destined for bigger things in his career. We don’t think he should be high up on Chelsea’s wish list, though.
In our view, the Blues are pretty stacked in the midfield position. They’ve got the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Conor Gallagher and Lesley Ugochukwu on their books to compete in the centre of the park.
Any big recruitment in the summer should be towards a new No 9! Mauricio Pochettino already has the tools to build a great midfield, but there’s still no prolific scorer at the top end of the pitch.
TEAMtalk claimed last month that Everton were braced for late offers for Onana in January from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal. He did end up staying in Merseyside, though.
Our guess is we could definitely picture the Toffees midfielder end up joining Arsenal.
