Leicester are ready to lower their asking price for Tottenham target James Maddison, talkSPORT understands.

The Foxes have been demanding a package worth up to £60million for Maddison but Spurs believe they can land the England midfielder for much less.

Tottenham have always been Maddison’s preferred destination despite the fact Newcastle have been tracking him since last summer.

It is not guaranteed that Newcastle will follow up their interest with a formal bid, strengthening Spurs’ hand in negotiations.

Three-time capped England international Maddison is a near certainty to leave the King Power Stadium following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League.

Last summer Newcastle failed with a bid, but a pathway of sorts appears to have cleared for Spurs with the Magpies set to splash-out £60m on Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

Maddison may well become Ange Postecoglou’s first outfield signing at Tottenham manager, with the Australian eyeing a number of new recruits.

talkSPORT understands that a new goalkeeper is already on the way, with Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario to undergo a medical ahead of a £16m move.

The 26-year-old will replace long-time shot-stopper and Spurs captain Hugo Lloris, who is set to depart the club.

Reports also claim that Postecoglou is looking to sell as many as 10 first team players after Spurs finished a disappointing 2022/23 campaign eighth in the Premier League.
