Gina Kirschenheiter reveals she maintained her sobriety while filming  The Real Housewives of Orange County’s 17th season: ‘It was a really good thing’

Gina Kirschenheiter has revealed that she remained sober while filming The Real Housewives of Orange County’s 17th season during a candid chat with E! News.

The 39-year-old reality television personality stayed away from alcohol for the first time since joining the show’s cast back in 2018 – which she said enabled her to cope with the on-set drama much more productively.

The podcast host, who recently took a drama-filled trip to Montana, began the sit-down by joking that maintaining sobriety was a much more difficult task than many would realize.

Kirschenheiter stated: ‘It’s crazy, right? Who would do this sober? I just keep saying the whole season, “I am way too sober for this.”‘

The reality television personality then expressed that she felt as if her personal and professional lives were positively affected by staying away from alcohol.

‘I think it was a really good thing for me. Obviously, personally I was able to tackle and look at some things that I really didn’t want to look at,’ she said. 

The podcast host also remarked that she was able to remain much more level-headed with the other Housewives while they worked on the program.

She stated that ‘I just felt way more present the whole season and able to stay in it more and help work things out between some of my castmates and what not, rather than just being like, “I can’t take it anymore. I’m just gonna put myself down.”‘

Kirschenheiter then discussed how being sober helped her connect with Jennifer Pedranti after the media personality opened up about her past infidelity.

‘That’s the right mindset if you’re going to look at these kind of traumas or things, you really want to do it with a clear mind,’ she said.

The social media figure added that maintaining sobriety helped her emotionally deal with the actions of her ex-husband Matt.

‘I have absolutely forgiven my ex. That’s why, for me, this really doesn’t have anything to do with him. It has to do with me and me having to process through all of my feelings and what I went through in regards to that trauma,’ she said.

The reality television personality and her former spouse previously tied the knot in 2010, and the two subsequently welcomed their children Sienna Rose, Nick, and Luca.

The two split up in 2018, and Kirschenheiter’s former husband subsequently pled guilty to a charge of domestic battery.

The former couple eventually finalized their separation in 2019, and the exes currently co-parent their children.

The reality television personality opened up about the state of her relationship with her former spouse during several episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County.

She has also moved on with Travis Mullen, whom she first began dating in 2019.
