Hugh Jackman celebrates as Australian cricket team win the World Test Championship after beating India by 209 runs ahead of the Ashes

Hugh Jackman has celebrated Australia’s win at the World Test Championship on Sunday.

The actor, 54, shared a post to Instagram, showing his support for the cricket team after they thumped India by 209 runs.

‘Cmon Aussie!!!!! Sensational win to cap off an incredible year in test cricket,’ Hugh wrote.

‘Congratulations guys!!! You’re on top of the world! Now The Ashes. Will be there to cheer you on.’

Australia beat India by 209 runs on Sunday – a result that left their captain Pat Cummins insisting, ‘We’re ready to go’ for Friday’s first Test at Edgbaston.

India had begun the final day on 164 for three with Virat Kohli at the crease, encouraging dreams among another large crowd of a world-record chase of 444.

But a ruthless Australian performance meant Cummins was holding aloft the ICC mace before most spectators at The Oval had finished lunch.

India’s last seven fell for 54, with four wickets for off-spinner Nathan Lyon and three for Scott Boland, who began the slide by having Kohli spectacularly caught at second slip by Steve Smith for 49, and will be difficult to omit against England.

‘Scotty Boland continues to be my favourite player,’ said Cummins. ‘He was our best bowler all game. He didn’t go for many runs and always looked threatening. I’m sure he’ll play a huge role in the Ashes.’

Chief among the decisions the Australians must make is which of Boland, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood – who was rested for this game, but is available for selection at Edgbaston – will miss out.

Boland now has 33 Test wickets at just 14 each, and his nagging line and length look tailor-made for English conditions.

Starc, meanwhile, went for 148 runs from 27.4 overs, even while taking four wickets, and lost the new ball to Boland in India’s second innings.

‘It was good fun,’ said Boland. ‘There was a little bit of bounce and we tried to exploit that. It felt pretty good to get Kohli out.’

With first-innings centuries for Smith and Travis Head, Australia look in good order – worryingly so, from an English perspective.

Australia will also know there is room for improvement, with Cummins admitting ‘at times we weren’t at our slickest’.
