Lady Gaga will not be performing this year at the Academy Awards, where she’s nominated for Best Original Song for Hold My Hand, her track from the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.
The show’s executive producer and showrunner Glenn Weiss said in a news conference on Wednesday that the New York City native, 36, will not perform at the show in Los Angeles Sunday, as she ‘is in the middle of shooting’ of Joker: Folie à Deux.
‘We have a great relationship with Lady Gaga and her camp,’ Weiss said, according to Variety. ‘She is in the middle of shooting a movie right now. Here, we are honoring the movie industry and what it takes to make a movie after a bunch of back and forth.’
Weiss said that with her ongoing commitment to the film, ‘It didn’t feel like she can get a performance to the caliber that we’re used to with her and that she is used to … so, she is not going to perform on the show.’
The actress-singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, is nominated alongside BloodPop against Rihanna (Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), Diane Warren (Applause from Tell It Like a Woman), Stephanie Hsu, David Byrne and Son Lux (This Is a Life from Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava (Naatu Naatu from RRR), the outlet reported.

Weiss said that ‘all five nominees’ were invited, as it is custom for the nominated songs to be performed live at the show.
Lady Gaga won an Oscar in 2019 for Best Original Song for the track Shallow from A Star Is Born, going viral for her emotion-packed performance with her costar in the film, Bradley Cooper.
She also performed Til It Happens to You at the show in 2016 from The Hunting Ground; and in 2022, was at Liza Minelli’s side onstage during the presentation of the award for Best Picture.
Upon her most recent nomination being announced, she said on social media in January, ‘Thank you so much to the Academy for nominating my song Hold My Hand for an Oscar this year!’
She added, ‘Writing this song for the film Top Gun: Maverick was a deep and powerful experience that I will never forget. So grateful for the magic of music and cinema.’
She wrapped up in saying, ‘Love you my co-writer @bloodpop I’m on set filming now big love to little monsters!’

Phillips past worked with Lady Gaga on the 2018 film A Star Is Born, which garnered her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.
She won her first Oscar in the category for Best Original Song for the film’s Shallow, along with Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando and Andrew Wyatt.
Gaga last summer confirmed she was taking on the role in the follow-up to the initial film, which made more than $1 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
Phoenix won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of the titular character and his alter ego Arthur Fleck.
Joker: Folie à deux has a release date of October 4, 2024.
