Lizzo’s Australian tour: Pop star brings sold-out concert to a standstill as fan, 11, opens up about being bullied online

Pop superstar Lizzo brought one of her Australian concerts to a standstill when an 11-year-old fan in the crowd opened up about how she is bullied on social media.

Monroe Mills was overcome with emotion when her sign reading, ‘PLS HELP ME SHOW MY HATERS I’M 100% THAT B***H!’ caught the attention of her favourite singer during Monday night’s ‘The Special Tour’ show at Sydney‘s Qudos Bank Arena.

When handed a microphone, the 11-year-old aspiring singer and dancer from Coffs Harbour opened up to the crowd about how she gets teased online.

‘I get bullied on social media and they always tell me I’m not good enough, ‘ Monroe said through tears to the crowd of 21,000 fans.

‘I like to dance and sing and I want to be like you.’

Welcoming her to the stage with open arms, Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, said, ‘How could somebody say something hurtful or harmful to a young person like this?’

‘Monroe, you’re beautiful and talented and incredible and you’re special, and you can do anything and you’re so young,’ the musician told her.

‘You could be the greatest dancer in the world – you have so much time.’

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Tuesday, Monroe said meeting her pop idol was a surreal experience.

‘I just can’t believe she picked me. I’m so happy,’ she said.

‘People usually bully me when I sing on live [Instagram Live] and pick on me about my teeth and my singing and tell me to give up.

In a move that shocked the pint-sized performer, Lizzo encouraged Monroe to take a moment to perform her dance moves to the crowd of thousands as they chanted her name.

‘It was a special moment I will never forget,’ she said. ‘I want to be a star like Lizzo one day.’

Monroe, who is home-schooled, suffers photo-aggravated eczema and solar urticaria – a rare allergy to sunlight that causes hives to form on skin that is exposed to the sun.

‘Her heart is so full right now. It has given her such a confidence boost after feeling pretty low lately,’ her mum Sarah told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I already had so much love for Lizzo, but the level of respect I have for her now… not just for Monroe’s love but the appreciation she has for every single guest there.’
