The Last Of Us: Ellie Williams remembers getting bitten by infected man and kissing friend Riley

Ellie Williams remembered how she was bitten by an infected after kissing her friend Riley in an abandoned mall on Sunday’s episode of The Last Of Us episode on HBO.

When the episode titled Left Behind opened Ellie [Bella Ramsey] was tending to Joel Miller’s stab wound and trying to stop the bleeding.

‘Leave,’ Joel [Pedro Pascal] said. ‘Take the gun. You should go north. Go to Tom.’

He pushed her way and a tear fell from Joel’s eye as she walked up the stairs of the house.

The show then flashed back and showed Ellie casually running circles in a gymnasium with other girls. One of the other girls named Bethany [Ruby Lybbert] pulled off her headphones and Ellie punched her in the face.

Captain Kwong, the administrator of the school, called Ellie to his office. He sat her down and asked her what was going on. Ellie told him that the other girl, Bethany, started it.

‘Well, Bethany is in the infirmary with 15 stitches,’ Kwong [Terry Chen] said.

Kwong told her she was smart and she should follow the rules and become an officer. Ellie asked him why he even cared.

‘There’s a leader in you and one day it could be your turn,’ Kwong said.

Ellie agreed and went back to his room. She stared at the other empty bed in her room. At 2am when she was sleeping her friend Riley [Storm Reid] crawled into her room through a window.

‘I thought you were dead,’ Ellie said. ‘You have been gone for three f***ing weeks.’

Ellie demanded to know where she was.

‘I joined the Fireflies,’ Riley said and showed her a gun. ‘Come with me for a few hours and have the best night of your life.’

Face punch: Ellie was outraged and punched Bethany in the face

Riley said she could trust her.

‘This better be good,’ Ellie said.

They climbed down a fire ladder and through a window and then walked through the building. They found a bottle of booze next to a man who overdosed and drank some. Ellie asked her why she joined the Fireflies.

Riley said one night she was sneaking back when a woman ran into her and asked her what she thought of the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA). When she told her she didn’t like what they were doing, the women asked her to join the Fireflies.

‘I said yes and I became a Firefly,’ Riley said.

Riley then took Ellie inside the mall. Riley told Ellie to go inside and then turned on all the lights in the mall.

‘So what do you think?,’ Riley said. ‘Tonight I am going to show you the four wonders of the mall.’

Ellie was amazed and rode down the escalator and ran up it excitedly.

‘Not exactly full of infected is it?’ Riley said.

Office talk: Captain Kwong, the administrator of the school, called Ellie to his office

Surprise visit: At 2am when she was sleeping her friend Riley [Storm Reid] crawled into her room through a window

Riley asked Ellie to close her eyes and to give her hand and then walked her over to a lit up carousel. Riley turned it on and they rode the horses together.

‘What, no way,’ Ellie said.

They laughed and drank the alcohol while riding together on the carousel. Suddenly, the ride stopped and Ellie urged Riley to come back to the program.

‘You could be running things,’ Riley said. ‘I turn 17 next month, that’s when you get your assignment. You know what Kwong gave me? Sewage detail. Standing guard while people shovel s***, that’s what they think of me.’

Riley said she panicked and ran away.

‘You know you are the one thing I miss from that f***ing place,’ Riley said.

Carousel surprise: Riley asked Ellie to close her eyes and to give her hand and then walked her over to a lit up carousel

They then got into a photo booth and posed for pictures. Then walked together to Riley’s fourth wonder which turned out to be an arcade with all the video games turned on.

‘This is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,’ Ellie said.

They opened up the change machine and started playing Mortal Kombat against each other. The noise of their game playing woke up one of the infected by the zombie fungus. Riley told her she had a gift for her, which was the volume two book of puns. They read them to each other and laughed.

Ellie looked and saw handmade explosives and asked Riley if she made them. She said she did. Ellie stormed off angry, realizing that Riley was just trying to recruit her.

‘None of this s*** was even about me.’ Ellie said.

‘Ellie, I’m leaving,’ Riley said. ‘They are sending me to a post in the Atlanta QZ. I asked if you could join so we could go together but Marlene said no.’

Riley said it was her last night in Boston.

Good times: They then got into a photo booth and posed for pictures

‘Why did you bring me here?’ Ellie said.

‘Because I wanted to see you,’ Riley said.

‘And?’ Ellie said.

‘And I wanted to say goodbye,’ Riley said. ‘This isn’t easy.’

‘Goodbye,’ Ellie said, walking off angry.

Ellie then felt bad and walked back. She heard screaming and then ran back to check on Riley, but it was just a Halloween decoration making the noise. Ellie found Riley and they sat down together. Ellie said she gave her an amazing night and now was leaving her again.

‘You don’t know what it was like to have a family to belong to,’ Riley said. ‘I belonged to them and I want that again. Maybe the Fireflies aren’t what I think they are but they chose me. I matter to them.’

‘But you matter to me first,’ Ellie said.

Video games: The girls played Mortal Kombat before they argued about politics

Ellie told her she was her best friend and would miss her. Riley told her she had one last thing to show her and gave her a wolf mask and told her to put it on. She plugged in the music from Ellie’s walkman and then danced on the countertops with their masks on to the song I Got You Babe.

Ellie took off her mask, asked her to not go and then reached over and kissed Riley.

They heard a noise and Riley told her to ‘get ready to run.’ An infected man ran in and attacked Riley and knocked her down before Ellie was able to stab it to death. After the fight, Ellie looked down at her arm and saw that she had been bitten.

‘No, no no,’ Ellie screamed.

Riley showed her that she had been bitten, too. Ellie and Riley sat together scared.

‘They way I see it we have two options, one we take the easy way out,’ Riley said holding a gun. ‘Quick and painless. No, I don’t like option one. Option two, we just keep going.’

‘What are you talking about, it’s over,’ Ellie said.

‘It will be but not yet,’ Riley said.

Riley said they would not give up and they could be ‘poetic’ and lose their minds together.

Under attack: An infected man ran in and attacked the girls

Knife stab: Ellie killed the zombie with a knife to the head

Deep bite: The infected man bit Ellie and Riley

Two options: ‘They way I see it we have two options, one we take the easy way out,’ Riley said holding a gun. ‘Quick and painless. No, I don’t like option one. Option two, we just keep going.’

The two hugged as they cried.

The show then jumped to Joel in the basement. Ellie searched cabinets in the house and found a needle and thread. She ran back down and Joel took her hand. Ellie then started stitching him up.

The Last Of Us will return next Sunday on HBO.
