The UK Daily Mail reported that 30-year-old Kerr entered a not-guilty plea to a racially aggravated offence and will face a four-day trial in February 2025.
The Mail reported that the allegations relate to an incident in Twickenham, London, on January 30.
London’s Metropolitan Police later confirmed Kerr’s charge in a statement to a number of outlets.
“Samantha Kerr, 30 (10.09.93) of Richmond was charged via postal charge requisition on 21 January with a racially aggravated offence under Section 4A Public Order Act 1986,” police said.
“The charge relates to an incident involving a police officer who was responding to a complaint involving a taxi fare on 30 January 2023 in Twickenham.”
Kerr, who is sidelined at the moment with an ACL injury, has captained the Matildas since 2019.
The Perth-born athlete also plays for Chelsea FC in the UK.
