Andre Onana turned down the chance to join two of Manchester United’s Premier League rivals, according to his agent.
The 27-year-old completed a £47million switch to Old Trafford last month, linking up with former boss Erik ten Hag.
Onana had worked with the Dutchman during their time together at Ajax, featuring 145 times between 2017 and 2022, before moving to Inter Milan.
The goalkeepers agent, Albert Botines, has since opened up on his client’s move to the Red Devils.
“It all started a few months ago,” Botines told Calciomercato. “Towards April, many inquired about the player.
“Tottenham have asked for information. Chelsea have had a very strong interest. There were meetings in London and Chelsea also met with Inter, but Ten Hag was key.
“We are looking forward to facing great managers like [Pep] Guardiola and trying to win titles with Manchester United. We have a great desire to excel.”
Man United were seeking a new keeper after David de Gea left the club on a free upon the expiration of his contract.
Ten Hag was desperate to lure Onana to Old Trafford, especially given the relationship the pair have, the style of football and Onana’s presence.
The Cameroonian is expected to make his official debut when the Red Devils face Wolves in their Premier League opener on August 12, live on talkSPORT.
