West Ham have had a £20million bid to sign Harry Maguire knocked back by Manchester United.
The 30-year-old is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford after falling down the pecking order under Erik ten Hag.
He was recently stripped as the club’s captain to only further fuel speculation that he is not in the Dutchman’s plans.
And according to The Athletic, Europa Conference League champions West Ham have made an offer to prise the England international away from the Theatre of Dreams.
But it has been said that the Red Devils have rejected their £20m offer – £60m less than what they paid for him in 2019.
The Hammers are now claimed to be mulling over whether they will return with an improved bid for the ex-Leicester star.
David Moyes is believed to be desperate to secure the services of the experienced centre-back as they prepare for the Europa League next season.
However they are doubtful whether Maguire even wants to leave United – meanwhile his salary could also prove to be problematic.
talkSPORT revealed in June that Maguire was willing to fight for his place at the Red Devils.
But Maguire knows he has to be playing regular first team football if he wishes to make Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad for Euro 2024 next year.
Speaking in May, Southgate revealed his loyalty to Maguire would be difficult to maintain should he remain on the sidelines.
He remarked: “Inevitably it’s not a situation that can continue for ever.
“It’s like Kalvin Phillips. They are important players for us and with Kalvin we haven’t got many players who can play as that single pivot.
“Of course the longer that situation goes on the more concerning it is and we’ve got, in Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Tyrone Mings, players who are playing well without the same experiences of club European football or international football.
“But we’ve got to keep searching for competition in that area of the pitch.”
