Pundit Karen Carney has singled out one Chelsea player for praise after what he did in the first half tonight against Aston Villa.
During coverage for ITV Sport, she pointed out the role Malo Gusto played in the second goal for the Blues tonight.
Chelsea made a real statement to those who were criticising them following results and performances in recent weeks.
They were 3-1 victors at Vila Park, making the most of a brilliant performance all round.
Goals from Conor Gallagher, Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez were enough for the Blues, who came minutes away from a clean sheet against Unai Emery’s side.
The second strike in particular tonight showed a team at the top of their game working together, with Jackson converting a brilliant cross from the right.
Carney praises Gusto
Gusto was the provider on this occasion, and Carney claimed that the Frenchman did all the work as they doubled their lead.

She said: “Gusto was massive in this goal but they pinned Villa’s line back here. In the end, brilliant cross and brilliant finish. The cross has a lot of pace on it so Jackson only has to put some direction on it.”
The £30m signing has been putting in a good shift in the absence of Reece James for the majority of this season, and the fact that Noni Madueke approached him straight after the goal suggested the players recognised what he did.
