‘The people who have done this are still walking the streets.’

Gordon was stabbed just half an hour after setting off from his his house.

Ms Barrett said the blade cut a major artery in his arm after he raised it to try to protect himself.

He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary at 6.30pm on the day of the incident.

Medics said it was likely that he had suffered severe brain damage due to a restricted oxygen supply.

Ms Barrett took photographs of her son in the hospital ‘to show him what he was actually like’ if he did return to health.

She also hopes the pictures will help to prevent similar incidents from taking place.

Gordon died in his mother’s arms six days after the incident on November 15.

Northumbria Police are still investigating his death.

A total of 14 teenagers, aged between 15 and 18, have been arrested and released on bail.

Three were questioned on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and the others held on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Ms Barrett said her son had hoped to join the army and she is concerned by the lack of progress in finding his killer.

Ms Barrett said: ‘Gordon was always an entertainer. He was always happy. He was never, ever sad. He always wanted to make people laugh. He always wanted to be the centre of attention. He was always the loudest person.

‘You couldn’t tell him off because you just wanted to laugh. He wasn’t just my son, he was my best friend.’

His sister Jessica Barrett added: ‘He was the funniest person I’ve ever met in my life. He would try and act the hard man but he was so loving.’
