Andy Townsend was delighted for Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk after he scored in the Premier League win against Newcastle United.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who started on the bench yesterday, scored the all important third goal in Chelsea’s 3-2 victory over Newcastle.
The 23-year-old winger weaved his way through the Magpies defence and then rounded the goalkeeper before scoring his sixth goal of the season across all competitions.
Despite struggling for any kind of consistency this campaign, he took his latest goal like an in-form attacker with plenty of confidence. Let’s hope it ignites a purple patch of form now for him, too.
Pundit Andy Townsend waxed lyrical about Chelsea’s Mudryk after his excellent bit of skill for his goal yesterday.
Townsend told Premier League productions (9:38pm, 11 March): “Another player who’ll be delighted to get on the scoresheet. Mudryk does really well to keep on the move, he’s a little bit fortunate to get control of it but when he gets in front of the goalkeeper, the composure is everything you’d want. A lovely shimmy by the goalkeeper and really well played. That’s a big goal for him and for Chelsea.”
Mykhailo Mudryk skill
We’ve seen in glimpses that Mudryk’s capable of producing spectacular individual moments. But we just need to see it a lot more often to justify the hype and price tag.

When he’s running at full speed with the ball at his feet, it’s very difficult for any defender in the world to halt him without committing a foul.
Speaking via Football.London after Chelsea’s win over Newcastle, Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino insisted that Mudryk made the kind of impact off the bench he expects from him.
We know his form is erratic and you never quite know what version of Mudryk will show up this season on a game-to-game basis. However, the raw talent is definitely there and it would be great to see him in more starting XIs for the final third of the season.
