Chelsea tried to offload one of their central defenders to another club at the start of the season.

While Mauricio Pochettino has not had all of his options available because of things like injuries, on paper, he has a lot of names to choose from.

Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah can all play in central defence.

Malang Sarr is another centre-back who Chelsea have on their books, though he has been completely out of the picture at Stamford Bridge this season.

According to journalist Dean Jones, Sarr is extremely disappointed with how his Chelsea career has panned out.

Chelsea offered one of their defenders to another club

It does not look like Chelsea wanted all of the above names at the club for the 2023/24 season.

Turkish outlet Fotospor recently claimed that Chelsea offered Sarr to Besiktas at the start of the campaign.

Earning £120,000 a week, according to Spotrac, the Blues would have been desperate for the 25-year-old to leave the club.

However, Fotospor’s report says that Samet Aybaba, Besiktas’ head of football operations, rejected the Blues’ proposal.

Malang Sarr and a couple of other Chelsea defenders could still depart

Given his wages and the fact that he is not playing right now, you would expect Sarr to eventually depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Frenchman is unlikely to be the only centre-back who leaves Chelsea, though.

An exit for Silva is starting to look inevitable. He is 40 this year and his contract expires at the end of the season.

You can also imagine Chalobah departing as well. When everyone else is fit again, the Chelsea academy graduate may have to settle for a place on the bench.

The idea of that may be enough to push Chalobah into finding a new club for the 2024/25 season.

Chalobah is actually playing right now, so it is not certain that he will go. But that is not the same for Sarr, who has been ostracised from the squad.
