Chelsea could face competition from Manchester City if they want to sign one midfielder this summer.
Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes is one player who has impressed Chelsea, according to HITC.
However, a report from FootballTransfers has now claimed that City are considering making a move for the 26-year-old in the next transfer window.
He is not going to be cheap, though, with the same outlet alleging that Newcastle will only sell if the player’s £100m release clause is met.
Chelsea have already spent that kind of money on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, so the Magpies’ stance may not be enough to scare them off. As well as City, the Blues could also face competition from another European giant.
Manchester City and Chelsea could both move for Bruno Guimaraes this summer
It is understandable that City and Chelsea are both interested in Guimaraes; the Brazilian is a top midfielder.
He can perhaps be a bit too aggressive at times, picking up nine yellow cards in the Premier League this season, but Guimaraes is a quality midfielder overall, combining technique and power.

Do Chelsea need another £100m midfielder? Probably not. They are better off keeping hold of Conor Gallagher and investing the money elsewhere.
With Gallagher’s contract running down, Chelsea could be forced to sell him at the end of the season. It has been reported, though, that insiders at Stamford Bridge believe the club will not get more than £30m for him.
Sorting that issue out seems much easier than bringing in Guimaraes, especially with City now sniffing around. However, it looks like that Chelsea are prepared to let Gallagher go, with Guimaraes potentially coming in as a very expensive replacement — it is something to keep an eye on this summer.
